Road Issues The Main Topic At Palmer

An exhaustive discussion on road issues and a decision on how to deal with lost pet issues were among the few topics chewed over at Monday’s Palmer Twp. Board meeting.

Road Issues
Road maintenance workers have cleared brush and tree interference from 121st Ave. SE and will soon get Creekwood Estates cleared out.

Plowing was discussed at the end of 48th Street SE where the snowplow driver does not know how far to plow due to resident property lines. The driver was advised to back in and make one pass. Supervisors decided to talk with the snowplow company about the cul-de-sac at 108th by the Elk Lake public access that needs plowing.

The board decided they’d consider replacing part of 115th Ave. that at this time is plagued with potholes.

Treasurer Roger Johnson brought up the fact that people have been parking illegally on certain township streets and even along posted routes that indicate no parking. All the while empty parking lots sit right across from the violators. Johnson said it is a concern especially when the vehicles are basically parked on the road and not off to the side.

Stray Dog Contract
The board discussed their stray dog contract with the Tri-County Humane Society and decided they had a few minor corrections to the form but plan on approving. Chairman Mike Ganz will be tasked with signing the document once a revised form is provided.

They also stressed the contract is for dogs only.

ROW Issues
The board discussed at length a right-of-way beyond the Geoffrey Dowty property along 42nd Street that shows on record there is no dedicated ROW from there to the south. The amount of ROW undedicated is 40-to-50 feet.

Attorney David Meyers asked the board how much time they want him to spend on “cleaning this issue up”?
Myers was instructed to send letters to ask for property owner dedication from all area properties (four). He also suggested the township wait to act on the situation until the spring when they can appear with a surveyor to answer any questions.
