Road Discrepancies Discovered In Haven Twp.

Craig Wensmann from Bogart, Pederson & Associates informed the Haven Twp. Board of Supervisors Monday they had discovered 65th Street isn’t located where it’s supposed to be.

He explained the company found the discrepancy when they were doing a private land survey and discovered 65th deviates from the road order 80 to 100’ too far to the south, and 50th Ave. deviates 15 to 20’ too far east.

A discussion was held on what should be done to fix the issue, with Twp. Attorney David Meyers recommending they don’t actually move the road as the township has a ‘road by use’ rights to it as is.

A decision was made to have a survey done so they would know where the right-of-way is supposed to be compared to where it actually is, after which a decision will be made on what action to take. A motion carried approving the survey.

Road Report

Supervisor Mark Knowles updated the board on the Sherwood West road project. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) informed them MS4 won’t be an issue as the township is maintaining ditches instead of creating new ones. Drainage will also not be an issue.

Knowles said Bogart, Pederson updated the original print slightly, the bid package has gone out and a notice is being run in the newspaper. Bid opening will be held during the August meeting.

Trees at the south end of River Haven will be removed and brushing completed soon. Knowles indicated he was concerned residents will start landscaping and planting in the ROW because it’s been cleaned up; Chairman Jeff Schlingmann said he’s had conversations with new property owners informing them they need to keep everything off the area.

Jeff Rhodes, Kathi Kosloski and Randy Linn have completed the spring road tour along with Sherburne Co. Agricultural Inspector Mitch Glines.
Rhodes provided the board with a list of items discovered on the tour that will need to be worked on, such as tree removals and potholes. Kosloski informed the board a number of noxious weed areas were discovered; the township is authorized to mow ditches more often if they’re infested.

Knowles requested Rhodes provide the township with a projection on his costs so they will have a better idea where they’re at from a budget standpoint; it will be tight this year due to the Sherwood West project.

Other Business

The sheriff reported 71 incidents for June, including three accidents, six medicals, a boating complaint and two thefts, one of a spare tire off the back of a vehicle and one for cutting catalytic converters off vehicles in a lot. The thief was apprehended while in the process of the theft; a catalytic converter was also stolen off a different lot the day prior.

The next Haven Twp. meeting will be Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.
