Members of the Clearwater Lions presented a special program Saturday - Storytime with the Lions.
February is Dental Health Month, so there was a good reason for the Lions to choose stories that promoted good dental hygiene. With a group of kids sitting around a table at the Clearwater Library, Marlene Kalla displayed the illustrations while Diane Kuechle read stories from the four-book Conroy the Crocodile series written by local author Kay Hickey of Maple Lake and illustrated by Penny Leuthard of Clearwater back in 2007.
The books are directed at children ages two through seven. The first two, Conroy Goes to the Dentist and Conroy Knows How to Brush and Floss are for two to three year olds and introduces children to the topic of good dental care. The last two, Conroy Loses a Tooth and Conroy Gets Dental Sealants, are for the older children.
The series focuses on Conroy the alligator and his visits to Dr. Oswald (an owl) and dental assistant Kit (a kangaroo). Conroy also has a number of friends in the series, including his best friend Ralph the Rhino.
Since its release, the Conroy series has been available in schools, libraries and some dental offices.
