The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony for the Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Veterans Memorial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Lee and Rose Peterson Tree Farm.

The first of its kind in the area, the memorial honors members of the armed forces who gave their lives in service of the country as part of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Local politicians, police and fire departments have been invited.

Once completed the memorial will include a personalized dog tag for each fallen U.S. soldier killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The tags are being handmade by veterans and each include the name of a soldier and his or her branch served, war of service, age at death and date of death.

The Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Veterans Memorial is located around the fence of an apple orchard on the Peterson Tree Farm property located at 5968 149th Ave., Becker. During the dedication ceremony, at least 2,000 of the over 6,000 tags will be hung on the fence.
