The Palmer Twp. Board had good news at their May meeting. The pickle ball court has officially been poured. The supervisors intended to allow the court to cure and have it painted near the end of May. The supervisors thought it would be ready by June 1. Treasurer Roger Johnson and his wife gave the township another $1,000 donation towards the pickleball project.
In other parks business, the supervisors discussed park patrons ignoring the no dog signs and riding around with their golf carts on the parks.
The county intends to hold a re-gathering event at Two Inlets park, bringing stakeholders together for a get-together on Monday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Lakes Update
In lakes business, half of the fish stocking for the year has already been completed. The lakes association received their carp management grant, and work will begin in June or July. More information can be found on the association’s Facebook page. The association will hold a members meeting on Fri., June 18, which will include a barbeque and a presentation from Sherburne Soil and Water.
Roads Update
The township supervisors discussed unauthorized signs appearing in the right of way on township roads. These signs were advertising mosquito control. The company which placed the signs were contacted to retrieve them or else they would be thrown out. The supervisors stated that the signs will blow into the ditch over time so they aren’t allowed. Placing signs in residential yards is allowed with owners’ permission.
In Other Business, the Board:
• Gave a report on a successful recycle day;
• Discussed getting fencing quotes and gave board approval to spend up to $20,000 (though it would likely not cost that much);
• Approved a conditional use permit for a property in Cedar Point to allow the landowner to put up a shed;
• Gave positive comments to the county for a request on a variance for a driveway for a shed;
• Approved renewal for the Briggs Lake Store tobacco license.
