Palmer Board Zips Through Meeting

Palmer Township Board met Jan. 8 and discussed lake spraying, a generator, the federal mileage rate change, moving a meeting date, fire news and the sheriff’s report.
 
Lake Association
Supervisor Demeules reported that the TLID has contracted with lake management for lake spraying and they are looking at grants for AIS.  
 
Demeules said the BLCA is working on the directories and are having a spring workshop on buffer planting.  
 
Mitch Hoefer asked about the steepness of the Briggs Lake access.  Demeules said it would be an issue for the DNR and he will talk to someone with the organization.
 
Generator Fix
Two solenoids on the generator were noted to be in need of replacement.  Demeules made a motion to have them repaired for the quote of $2,182.25. 
 
Supervisor Ganz seconded it and the motion passed unanimously.
 
Mileage Rate
Treasurer Johnson said the federal mileage rate has changed to 54.5¢ a mile. Ganz made a motion to use the federal rate as the rate for Palmer Township.  Demeules seconded it and the motion passed.
 
Meeting Change
Johnson asked to have the April meeting changed from April 9 to April 16.  It was decided to move it to that date with the change to be posted on the website. 
 
Fire Dept. News
Craig Miller reported December was very busy with 27 calls. There were nine medical calls for Palmer Township.  
 
Miller said the City of Clear Lake rejected the latest fire contract. 
 
Park/PEC Report
Ganz reported that he had rolled the ski trail at the park.  
 
Johnson reported that P.E.C. will be May 5 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
 
Sheriff’s Report
Captain Bob Stangler reported there were 80 calls for service in December.  Twenty seven of those calls were for traffic stops, five for offenses charged by citation and two for burglaries.  One was for stolen packages and one was for stolen AC condensers in which the suspect was arrested.  
 
Stangler said there was one crash with injury and two crashes with property damage. 
 
“There was a truck that went into the lake on Sunday evening, Jan. 7,” Stangler said.  “It is still in the lake.” 
 
Maureen Havert thanked Captain Stangler for getting the garbage picked up.  
 
Treasurer’s Report
Johnson read the balances from the treasurer's report.  Demeules made a motion to approve the report with Larson seconding.  
 
Demeules motioned to approve claims #18001-18018 plus payroll for a total of $96,802.45.  Larson seconded.
