Tuesday, Sherburne County Assessor Dan Weber said there was an offer of $135,000 for the 1.84-acre site on the corner of Bradley Boulevard and First Street, also known as the Hwy. 10 frontage road.

 

The county has owned the property since 1972.Over the years it housed a satellite office Health & Human Services, then the Historical Society History Center was built in 2005.

 

The old history center was demolished to make the property more marketable.The site is currently made up of two irregular shaped lots that would not reasonably accommodate two businesses.

 

Tuesday, the county board transferred the property to the Sherburne County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, which would sell the land according to a redevelopment plan. Money from the sale would be returned to the county.

 

Although no specific buyer was named at Tuesday’s meeting, the project description states: “The facility will be constructed with the end goal of operation of a General Retail Store...The building would be a retail structure ranging in size from 9,100 to 9,100 square feet. A maximum of 30 parking spaces would be developed with appropriate lighting. The project is expected to create 10 to 14 jobs of which two or three would be full time.”

 

The board also directed the county administrator to set a public hearing date for the sale of the property.

 

The City of Becker is also required to hold a public hearing on the redevelopment plan and project plan.

 

 

The board approved an Interim Use Permit (IUP) for Ray’s Auto Body in Baldwin Twp. for mechanical and body repair and sales of vehicles, trailers and RVs. The 1.42-acre property at 31320 125th Street.

 

The board approved the preliminary and final simple plat of Frey Addition, consisting of one new lot split from a 92.61-acre parcel on 95th Ave. in Clear Lake Twp.

 

In other action the board:

 

•Approved a request by the sheriff’s office to apply for a grant from Sherburne County United Way for the Substance Use Prevention Coalition;

 

•Approved the annual County and Water Safety grant agreement for the sheriff’s department in the amount of $9,322;

 

•Set the Truth in Taxation meeting for Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.;

 

•Approved a professional services agreement with Central Minnesota Sustainability Project that will allow the county to implement strategies targeted at reducing the percentage of Minnesotans who are obese or overweight. Total cost will not be over $10,000 and will be covered by the SHIP grant;

 

•Proclaimed the week of May 11-17 as National Polices Officers Week;

 

•Proclaimed the week of May 18 as Emergency Medical Services Week.
