Officer Sam Norlin of the Big Lake Police Dept. received the Chief’s Letter of Recognition for his swift, professional, and supportive actions during a medical emergency that took place back in March.
Officer Norlin responded to an individual who had sustained a severe laceration to their forearm while handeling a chainsaw. The laceration was deep and bleeding moderately. The patient appeared to be going into shock due to their injuries and was becoming lethargic.
Officer Norlin immediately applied a tourniquet to the patients arm to stop the bleeding. Norlin remained composed and supportive staying engaged with the patient while awaiting for EMS personnel to arrive.
“Throughout the entirety of the incident, Officer Norlin remained compassionate and dedicated to assisting one of our residents during a terrifying experience,” said Chief John Kaczmarek. “As your Chief, I am proud of your actions and the humanity displayed. Great work!”
