The Becker School Board met Tuesday to discuss the election of officers, committee assignments and the superintendent search process.
Supt. Search Process
The school board produced a letter sent out to staff members, parents, community members and students that is help provide feedback to the board in their search to replace Dr. Stephen Malone. The letter indicated a link to a survey where people could comment on what they would like to see or expect fro the first couple of years with the new hire.
Malone put in for his retirement last year and the board plans to sort through applications by early February, schedule interviews by the middle of the month, then have the new superintendent identified and hired by late February.
Election of Officers
Aaron Jurek was named chairman once again for the new year. Jason Kindred is once again the vice chair, Mark Swanson the clerk and Lori Molus the treasurer.
Malone passed out an MSBA publication entitled, The First Monday in January: Everything you need to know for your school board’s organizational meeting. He noted the procedure for election of officers begins on page 3.
Committee Assignments
Jurek was in charge of appointing the committee assignments.
Ryan Obermoller and Swanson were named to the activities advisory committee. Jurek and Connie Robinson remain with administrative negotiations. Jurek is part of the calendar committee. Kindred, Molus and Swanson are part of certified negotiations.
Jurek, Kindred and Obermoller are part of classified negotiations. Obermoller is on the community education committee. Kindred and Molus are part of curriculum advisory and Jurek is part of ECFE.
Robinson is on the free & reduced price meals committee while Molus, Obermoller and Swanson are part of individual contracts. Robinson is part of nutrition and TRAK and Swanson is part of the technology committee.
Sherburne State Bank, Minnesota School District Liquid Assets Fund, and PMA/MN Trust as were designated as district depositories for 2019. Bergan KDV, LTD was named as the district auditors for FY 19. Kennedy & Graven was designated as the school district’s legal counsel. The Citizen-Tribune was identified as the official district newspaper.
The regular school board meeting dates were identified as the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. with the following exceptions: • March 11 (March 4 is during Spring break); • September 9 (September 2 is a holiday); • October 14 (Superintendent at Fall MASA Conference on October 7).
The board should determine their preferred meeting time for the above dates.
