Oakwood Church serving the needy

For the third month in a row, Oakwood Church in Becker has been holding a free food drive to citizens struggling with high grocery prices, inflation and the general cost of goods.

This is the first year Oakwood Church has organized such an event and they have partnered with Second Harvest Heartland of Brooklyn Park to do so. All food items are donated or paid for by Oakwood Church’s congregation.

The first month, October of this year, the volunteers at Oakwood Church handed out food and drink items to over 260 people. In November, they served over 350 and they hope to grow the ministry throughout the year and keep the drive moving forward for the forseeable future.

Oakwood Church holds the drive the first Wednesday of every month just outside their building doors at 12900 1st Street in Becker. Pallets of fruit, vegetables, milk, potatoes, crackers, chips and much more are rolled up to the doors and arranged for distribution by eager volunteers.

The food drive is free to anyone who visits and it starts at 10:30 a.m. EVERY first Wednesday of the month.

For any product that does not go to a family during the food drive, the items are packaged up and sent to Place of Hope Ministries in St. Cloud.
