Ninth Annual Santiago Horseshoe Tourney

Some of the top horseshoe pitchers in the state will compete in Santiago today (June 4) beginning at 9 a.m. Sig Armitage of Canby, who holds a 73.74% ringer average, and Ray Volkers of St. Paul, who holds a 66.76 average, will head up Class A beginning at 1 p.m.
 
Henry Greenwaldt of Bertha won the fourth annual tournament. Dale Hustad of Roseville is the Class A defending champion. Both of these men will be on hand Saturday.
 
Class B is headed up by Stan Barney of Clara City and Brian Wipper of Palmer is entering in second position. Becker pitcher, George Peterson is the top qualifier in Class C, and Wayne Peterson of Becker is entered in the second position behind Gary Spoden of Foley in Class D.
 
Paul Anderson of West Fargo, ND is travelling the farthest for the tournament.
 
Classes C and D begin at 9 a.m. with Classes A & B to follow at 1 p.m. The Santiago Horseshoe Club opened their 27th season on May 16 with 30 pitchers ready to compete. The public is invited to come and watch at no charge. Concessions are available on the grounds.
