New provider brings healing to Becker

It seems appropriate that Josiah Mangas became a chiropractor.  Afterall, his name means “God has healed” and that’s what his job is now, but Josiah didn’t always know what he was supposed to be when he grew up.  It took time for him to figure that out and multiple stops before ending up at Scheideman Chiropractic in Becker.

Monticello Graduate

A graduate of Monticello High School, Josiah played football, jumped show horses, and wrestled.  Because of those activities, he got to know his family’s chiropractor, John Belde.   They formed a lasting relationship that would later lead Josiah back home.

After High School, Mangas went on to play Division III football at UW Stout and UW Eau Claire, ultimately, graduating from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology.  For over a decade, he was employed with his mother, an occupational therapist, working with special needs children and adults. But even after a decade Mangas felt he wanted to do something else.

Uncle Steve

Mangas reached out to his Uncle Steve Mangas, who is a chiropractor in Indiana.  Steve thought Josiah might have what it takes to be a chiropractor himself and convinced him to look into it.  Eight years later, Josiah graduated with his Doctorate at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN.  During this same time, he met his wife, Sarah.

An Old Friend

After graduation, Josiah took jobs to work in chiropractic offices in Albertville and Bloomington doing mostly adjustments.  After the birth of his son Harold, Mangas grew nostalgic for the area he grew up in.  He reached out to two old friends, Dr. John Brennan and Dr. Belde who both encouraged him to return to the area and influenced him on how to treat patients.

Mangas asked Belde if he had an opening.  He didn’t.  He did tell Josiah to reach out to an old friend and former colleague Dr. Brent Scheideman.  They began talking, but before anything could be settled, his wife Sarah began having health issues due to her recent pregnancy.  What felt like a low point in their lives, soon turned into an answer to prayer when Dr. Scheideman again reached out to both him and his wife in Sept. of 2024 to talk about an upcoming opportunity.

“Ever since we started talking two years ago, he’s (Scheideman) been really great at making sure my wife is on the same page as us,” Mangas shared.  “He’s been great at making sure she’s included and making sure we’re not making any decisions without Sarah being a part of it.”

Homeward Bound

This January, Josiah and Sarah decided that he should join Scheideman’s practice.  Since then, Mangas has been received well.  He believes it’s because he also has a psychology degree.  He can communicate with his new clients.  Josiah understands that doctors are going to have different ways of adjusting areas that need attention and talks to his patients about what makes them most comfortable.

Josiah and Sarah have also decided to sell their Richfield home to move closer to his new job.  Though they don’t have all the details worked out, they are hoping to move back soon.  Josiah has felt that during this time in their lives God has not only provided him with the opportunity to provide healing, God has also given him and his wife the opportunity to receive healing.

Afterall, that’s what Josiah means, “God has healed”.
