New Council Member Sworn In Tuesday

The Becker City Council dealt with committee reports, a public hearing, approval of specs and plans for IP and swore-in a new council member at Tuesday’s meeting.

Olmscheid in

Rebecca Olmscheid took the oath of office Tuesday to join Rick Hendrickson, Mike Doering, Troy Cox and Mayor Tracy Bertram on the council. The seat Olmscheid acquired  became available after Todd Hanrahan resigned in April.

Two candidates were interviewed for the vacant seat including Olmscheid and Dennis Rzeszotarski. They were questioned and following the interviews, council members discussed the candidates and the consensus was to go with Olmscheid.

Public Hearing

Last year, council adopted a sidewalk snow removal ordinance requiring sidewalks to be cleared of  snow within 48 hours following the termination of any snow event. If snow is not removed, the city will perform work to have it removed and bill the owner for the work.

In January and March, the city invoiced numerous properties for work that was completed to clear snow from sidewalks. To date, there are 43 property owners who have not paid for these services. All of these properties were sent a notice to again notify them of the unpaid charges and the public hearing to consider certification of the charges.

Following the public hearing, council approved to certify unpaid snow removal charges to the properties identified.

Committee Reports

Council provided updates on four committees attended by various council members. The reports were for the Northern Metals tour, joint planning board, police management and the Xcel advisory group.

Closed Session

Council moved to recess Tuesday’s meeting so the staff and council could meet in a closed session to discuss and/or develop an asking price for property owned by the City of Becker in the plat known as Energy Park 5th Addition  within the City of Becker.

Consent Agenda

Greg Pruszinske presented the consent agenda which included hiring and termination reports for Pebble Creek, community development and the BCC. The CA also included a OPG-3 concierge package for automating accounts payable and a noise variance application approval for the Becker Lions.
