The 2015 Baccalaureate Service was hosted by the Becker Baptist Church Thursday evening, and featured a full program of student music and reflections from former and current BHS students and mentors who have come to know the graduating class.
The program began with a “Class of 2015” slideshow, showing the class members in a variety of locales and activities, including asleep on a bus, in costume and up on a ladder with paintbrush in hand.
Following the Procession of 2015 Graduates into the church proper, the welcome and opening prayer were spoken by seniors Brittany Bodien and Dawson Brown. The Worship Team, Josh Drury, Joe Gudim, Andy Johnson, Celia Mix, Nick Norgaard and Joey Perry, then performed two songs, “10,000 Reasons” and “Oceans.”
In the “Reflections from a Peer,” Josh Drury told the story of his personal journey of faith, including his actual journey in which he passed through Iowa on his way to Becker. The Worship Team then played and sang “How He Loves” during the offering, which the 2015 Baccalaureate Committee dedicated to the Dylan’s Hope Foundation.
“Reflections from Mentors” featured testimony from BHS school nurse Heidi Tuorila on the difficulty of correctly interpreting Devine planning, and the changes that come in a life of belief, while fellow mentor Nate Bucher, a second-grade teacher at BPS, spoke of “being bold in your faith” and the plans made for every life on the planet.
Joey Perry then played one of his original songs with the Worship Team called “Free,” followed by some life advice from BHS graduate Rey Robinson. The Child/Parent Prayer this year was spoken by senior Emma Buntrock and her Mom, Nancy.
The closing song was “Blessed Be Your Name,” followed by the Benediction by BCC Youth Pastor Kevin Drehmel.
The 2015 Baccalaureate Committee included seniors Brittany Bodien, Dawson Brown, Emma Buntrock, Jacob Charbonneau, Josh Drury, Joe Gudim, Michaela Manifold and Joey Perry, and Kevin Drehemel, Jeremy Hallquist, Chris Salvevold and Doug Watercott.
