People in charge of museums and exhibition halls know that fund raising is a crucial part of the game, and that the challenge is to come up with new and novel approaches that will attract the attention of likely donors each year at fund raising time. In seeking to meet that challenge, Sherburne History Center Exec. Director Mike Brubaker has decided to go “all in” with a plan that will put his own head on the block, or at least in the barber’s chair, if it succeeds.
The SHC has issued a challenge calling for $3,000 in donations to be raised by May 31. If the goal is achieved, Brubaker has promised that he will shave his head in appreciation and, if the goal is exceeded and $5,000 is raised, he will both shave his head and eat broccoli with every meal for a week. Should the center raise $7,500 during the challenge, it will mean head shaving, broccoli and a pierced ear for the director.
Spring Fund Raiser
The annual spring fundraiser for the SHC is titled “Rhythm and Brews”, and will take place at the Carousell Works in Big Lake Friday, May 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., more or less, according to the organizers. The event will feature an evening of good conversation, wine and beer tasting, and bluegrass music from Gabe Barnett and the Big House Rockers.
Tickets are available at the SHC for $25 apiece, with the first 100 ticket buyers also receiving an engraved wine glass to commemorate the event. The Sherburne History Center is located at 10775 27th Ave., Becker, MN 55308.
