On May 6, 2025, the Big Lake Police Department responded to a disturbance at a  residence in Big Lake. Officers learned that an assault involving a weapon had occurred. The suspect was identified as Norberto Lazaro Neira and known to live in Monticello. 

Officers from the Big Lake Police Department, with the assistance of the Wright County Sheriffs Office, located Neira’s vehicle al his residence in Monticello. 

Through their investigabon, officers obtained information that Neira may be at a local department store in Monticello. Officers responded to the area in which they believed Neira may be present. Officers were able to identify a vehicle which Neira was occupying. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and Niera was taken into custody without incident. 

A subsequent search warrant was conducted on Neira’s residence in Monticello. The knife described during the assault was recovered. Neira was transported and booked into Sherburne County Jail. 

Neira has been charged with 1st Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Assault-Dangerous Weapon, Threats of Violence-Reckless Disregard Risk, and two counts of Domestic Assault
