Mitchell Sakry of Becker Boy Scout Troop 29 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. His Eagle Court of Honor was on Saturday October 18th, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Palmer Town Hall in Palmer. Mitchell is the son of Tim and Sheileen Sakry of Becker, MN. Mitchell is the grandson of Henry and Phyllis Sakry and John and Terese Weis of St. Cloud, MN.
He began his journey in Cub Scouts while in first grade as a Tiger Cub. Mitchell earned the Arrow of Light Award, the highest award in Cub Scouts; Mitchell then crossed over into Boy Scouts. He is part of Becker Boy Scout Troop 29 sponsored by the Santiago Lions of Santiago. Mitchell has held the following positions while being part of Boy Scouts; Bugler and Troop Guide.
Mitchell has participated in countless monthly campouts over his scouting career ranging from Big Oaks to Camp Wilderness to camps in Wisconsin. Mitchell is active with his community and also enjoys fishing and hunting.
To attain the rank of Eagle Scout a scout must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges (12 of which are required). Mitchell has earned these and plans on attaining many more. To earn the Eagle Scout rank, scouts are also required to demonstrate their leadership skills by planning, organizing, and completing a service project that benefits the community or charitable organization.
For his Eagle Scout project, Mitchell repaired the Becker Community mobile sign which was badly damaged in a wind storm. The Becker Community Center approved these plans; Mitchell obtained the necessary materials from the Becker Community Center and then coordinated the work with boys from Troop 29 to accomplish his project.
An eighth grader at the Becker Middle School, Mitchell plans to stay in Boy Scouts and plans on earning palms, which are achievements that can only be achieved after the rank of Eagle.
