Miller Out, Mc Cann In As Palmer Twp. Clerk

Most of Monday’s Palmer Twp. meeting dealt with road issues, street signs, a retirement, a new hire as well as the introduction of a new engineer with Bogart Pederson & Associates (BPA).

New Engineer
Twp. Engineer Terrance VanderEyk of BPA introduced Wes Davis, an engineer BPA recently hired to help transition Davis with Eyk’s impending retirement.

Davis, who currently lives in Orrock Twp. with his wife, Naomi and her two children, is a graduate and former employee at WSB & Associates of St. Cloud and Minneapolis. WSB & Associates is a professional consulting and design firm providing engineering, planning, environmental, and construction services to clients in the government, energy, and commercial markets.

Road Issues
Eyk spoke to the board about putting together a plan to begin the process of putting up signs around the lake indicating the proper weight restrictions. Eyk had already had six traffic counters established and did four soil borings.

Attorney David Meyers said the township would need to create a permit law for specialized trucking on the roads. Exempt from this law would be snow plows, school busses and garbage trucks.

Fire Signs
The board discussed an issue the fire department brought up in regards to roads that feature driveways off one major driveway off a major road.

For instance, along Hwy. 25, several fire signs are posted at one driveway that heads back to several homesteads that have their own driveways off the main road. The fire department has had no problem finding the fire signs off the main road, but have difficulty finding the correct home to arrive at since each proceeding driveway is not marked.

The fire department recommends to the township board that the homeowners be notified that new, highly-reflective fire signs will be installed at each and every driveway so fire trucks can identify the home in need.

Township Clerk Kathy Miller said letters to the homeowners will be sent out as soon as possible.

Park Report
It was reported that most of the fallen leaves at the park have been eliminated and any that hang on and fall from henceforth will be cleaned up in the spring.

The board discussed options dealing with faulty lights at the concession stand and pavillion.

A $2,000 donation was approved by the board to be used towards the township’s annual Palmer Day event.

Clerk Retirement
Board Chairman Mike Ganz made an official announcement that long-time clerk, Kathy Miller will be retiring soon and her replacement will be Kelly McCann.

Miller was presented a plaque and a card in honor of her service and guests were invited to stay after the meeting to share in some cupcakes.

Election Update
Out of the 1,612 citizens in the Palmer Twp. area, 1,338 cast their votes, making it 83% of all area citizens voting last Tuesday. County-wide, it was reported the voter turnout was over 90%.

Up Next
The next Palmer Twp. Board meeting is scheduled for Tues., Dec. 13 because of a conflict in scheduling with Chairman Ganz and others.
