Mike Garland Week 8

The Citizen-Tribune is dedicating this space to cover Mike Garland’s Pacific Crest Trail walk for cancer.

Eighth Week Day 46:
“I got into Kennedy Meadows about 8:30 this morning,” said Mike, who is at a little over 702 miles into his trek. “They had some outside showers so I jumped in there right away.”

Mike says he has had three full meals since he got into town and is grateful to have some ‘real food” and get some calories into his body.

Mike said internet service was pretty much nonexistent there in town.

“I was able to get a ride about five miles out just to post some things online to catch up all of my followers,” he said. “I didn't even get a chance to call home and talk to my wife yet.”

Mike says he was hoping to get a call to her before he headed back out Sunday.

“I have heard the cell service is pretty scratchy for the next 175 miles,” he said. “I am guessing that is about 11-13 days. I will post when I am able.”

Mike says his body and spirits are really good and he feels strong and healthy. The one thing he says he is missing (besides his family of course), is a haircut and a shave.

“I'm not sure if I can make the whole journey without getting it cut,” he said. “We will have to see.”

Mike took 26,611 steps Sunday, June 12.
