Mark Your Calendars For Area Clean Up Days

With spring finally making an appearance after a dreadfully long winter, it’s time to start thinking about cleaning out the home and garage of all that junk.

Communities throughout the state will participate in city-wide clean-up days, allowing for citizens to properly dispose of unwanted, irrepairable and broken rubbish.
 
Becker
 
The City and Township of Becker will be holding their annual Spring Clean-Up Day Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city’s public works building (11956 Gardner St.).
 
The city and township will be accepting LP tanks, scrap metal, used oil, household batteries, eyeglasses, printer cartridges, cell phones, hearing aids, auto batteries and passenger tires (1) at no charge. For $1 each, you can dispose of your fluorescent bulbs and for $2 the ballast. Tires beyond the first one will cost $2-3 and small appliances such as radios, vacuums, DVD players and toasters can be trashed for just $2.
 
Computer towers can be discarded for $10 as well as printers, microwaves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, furnaces, water heaters, humidifiers and dishwashers. Computer monitors will cost $15 per unit as wells as 24” and smaller TVs, air conditioners and office equipment.
 
An entire computer system (monitor, tower, printer, keyboard, etc.) will cost around $35. TVs 27” up to 32” will cost $30 and TVs greater than 32” or is a console will cost $45.
 
Furniture (couches, desks, tables, mattresses, box springs and upholstered chairs) cost $5 each.

Clear Lake
 
The City and Township of Clear Lake will hold their annual clean-up day May 3 at 70th Avenue and 72nd Street in Clear Lake Twp. Their event runs from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Big Lake and Orrock
 
The City and Township of Big Lake as well as Orrock Twp. have their annual event scheduled for May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Big Lake Twp. maintenance building (20150 166th St.).

Baldwin Twp.

Each city and townships’ rates for recycling and disposal are different. Items not accepted during clean-up events include household hazardous wastes (paints, solvents, cleaners, fuels, etc), demolition debris and household garbage.
