Lynden Township supervisors discussed clean up day options, a road closing request and a speed complaint during their March meeting.
Clean Up Day
The City of Clearwater informed the township they wouldn’t be invited to partner with them for clean up day any longer.
Supervisor Dave Johnson met with Allied Waste to discuss options for the township, and noted issues with running a solo township clean up day, including location, staffing and restroom access.
Supervisor Jerry Finch made a motion to cancel spring clean up day if the township is unable to partner with Clearwater. The motion passed two to one, with Johnson opposed. The township will look into options for a fall clean-up event.
Road Closing Request
Doug Bischoff approached the board to request the minimum maintenance portion of Franklin Road be closed and barricaded. Bischoff, who owns property on both sides of the road, said ATVs tear up the road and people dump rubbish along it.
Township Attorney Mike Couri informed the board the road could be closed by resolution, and a motion was passed granting preliminary approval to pursue closing it.
Nuisance Complaint
Supervisor Anne Ackerman informed the board she had received a complaint regarding a property on 146th Street that has accumulated a lot of junk and numerous vehicles.
The board will send a letter to the property owner notifying them of a nuisance ordinance violation, and giving them until the board’s April meeting to either begin visible progress toward compliance or to present a plan to clean up the property.
Speed Complaint
Clerk Jenny Schmidt informed the board she had received a letter from a resident once again complaining about speeds on Woodbine Road.
Finch said he would request the Stearns County Sheriff’s mobile speed unit be placed along the road, and request a deputy be stationed at the site with a radar gun.
Permit Copies
Lynden Township Building Official Nancy Scott attended the meeting to discuss Stearns County Environmental Services’ (SCES) copy requirements for construction site permits.
She indicated if SCES will accept the first two pages of the permit, she would scan and send the pages directly to them; Johnson will follow up with the organization. Planning Administrator James Kantor will edit the permit form to include Lynden Township’s name.
Other Business
A motion passed approving the issuance of a certificate of compliance for an administrative land split to correct the PIDSs of Curtis F. and Clinton M. Olson’s two parcels. Schmidt will forward the executed document to Curtis Olson.
The township has asked the resident who dumped rubbish on 200th Street to remove it.
Treasurer Dan Torgersen informed the board he had spoken with the Minnesota Association of Township’s attorney, who recommended they not sign the Lake Central Bank Commercial Internet Banking Hold Harmless agreement. He will look into Sherburne National Bank’s policies.
The next Lynden Township meeting will be April 3 at 7 p.m.
