Lpi Names Environmental Prize Winner At Bms

Five representatives from Liberty Paper Inc. (LPI) in Becker were on hand to give out the first round of prizes in the annual Environmental Book Challenge program at the Becker Middle School Wednesday afternoon.  Laura Brown, Ashton Plafcan, Tim Swanson, Jason Pfingsten and Tom Murphy joined BMS Media Specialist Holly Wieber in conducting the prize drawings, which included gift bags and Target® cash cards for five grand prize winners.

Students who had read one book on the contest list had their name entered once in the contest, while students who had read two or more increased their chances to win by having multiple entries in the hopper.

The sixth grade at BMS enjoyed outstanding participation in the contest this year, Wieber said, with all nine classrooms posting 100 percent rankings, meaning that every student in the grade has read at least one environmentally-themed book during the contest period.

That 100 percent result also means that all of the sixth-grade classrooms will be able to enjoy a pizza lunch, delivered sometime between now and the end of the school year.

A group of 56 sixth-graders who also participated in the essay contest portion of the program will also have an opportunity to tour the LPI plant in Becker later this spring, Wieber said.  Prizes for essay contest winners will be presented during that event.
