The French Consul General out of Chicago will be in Waite Park next week to bestow the Legion D’Honneur to World War II veteran Boyd Sorenson, an extremely high honor. Sorenson, 96, of Waite Park will be awarded France’s highest distinction for his role in the liberation of France during WWII.
Sorenson enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and was transferred to the U.S Army Air Corps in 1943 as a fighter pilot. He flew 89 missions in the European Theater during the Second World War. He participated in the Normandy, Northern France and Air Offensive Europe campaigns. Sorenson also flew 72 missions in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He received several medals for his service in France and Europe during WWII.
Consul General of France to the Midwest region, Guillaume Lacroix, will present the Legion of Honor medal to Sorenson in a ceremony on Monday, July 1st in Waite Park.
