Both Becker and Big Lake Schools are celebrating homecoming in a different, socially distant way this year.
Big Lake Homecoming
The Big Lake Homecoming game will take place today (Saturday) at 1 p.m. The Hornets will face off against Delano. Two spectators per athlete will be allowed to attend, and tickets needed to be reserved in advance. A live stream will be available at www.Facebook.com/BLHornets.
The homecoming king and queen will be announced at halftime. Homecoming king candidates include Tre Gordy, Alex Ombongi, Brandon Stern, Aiden Miller, and Reed Bottema. The homecoming queen candidates include Mia Huberty, Emma Rezac, Ava Vizenor, Hailey Dickson, and Allison Nguyen.
During the week leading up to the game, students participated in dress-up days, including pajama day, costume day, sports team day, flannel day and Hornets Pride day. As per the MDH (Minnesota Department of Health), no dance will be held this year.
Becker Homecoming
Becker’s homecoming game will be Thursday, Nov. 12, as the Bulldogs take on Willmar at 7 p.m. The game should be available for live streaming, although seating at the game will be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Homecoming coronations will be Monday, Nov. 9. The school hopes to livestream this as well.
Students will be able to participate in dress up days during homecoming week. Tuesday and Thursday, members of Becker NHS (National Honor Society) and the student council will be spray painting cars with the Becker schools logo. Money raised by this will be given to “Tackle Cancer.” Wednesday, there will be a virtual veteran’s day program. Trucks with flags will be stationed outside the school. Friday, there will be a Royalty Parade around the school campus. No dance will be held this year.
