Local Man Questioning Ticket Through Construction Zone

Wayne Peterson of Becker was just trying to get to his home 1/2 a mile off Co. Rd.11 a few weeks ago, when he got pulled over by a county sheriff’s officer. Peterson couldn’t figure out what he could have done to warrant being pulled over, but he obliged.

He was issued a $75 ticket for driving around a barrier set up for construction on the road.

“I was told when I mentioned where I lived that there were other ways to access my property than driving past the barricade,” said Peterson. “My other options are to drive to Big Lake or go past the compost heap in Becker  - a good four miles or so out of my way.”

Peterson learned the sheriff’s department was patrolling the area for violators recently since the highway department had received reports of a lady almost taking the blade off a grader in about the same area prior to Peterson’s violation.

Peterson plans to dispute the ticket and has a court date set for late August to appear before a judge.

“I don’t really know what will come out of it but I certainly don’t want something like this to end up on my record,” he said.

The construction on Co. Rd. 11 has since been completed.
