Author and former Clearwater resident Cindy Frank-Stupnik has a new book about Clearwater.

 

Around Clearwater is a non-fiction pictorial chronicle of Clearwater with photos and stories dating back to about 1850.

 

The book begins with an early history of the settlers who discovered the area that would later become Clearwater.

 

It continues with stories of famous individuals and business owners who built the town.

 

Stupnik says the book tells about all those people and their connections to the east, Canada and Europe and how the community was built up first with lumber and second because of the fertile soil.

 

“So many people who came to this area had really great credentials,” she says. “I was so surprised when I started researching their resumes who they were who settled this community with such hope and promise.” 

 

The book concludes with a photograph of Maud Porter, born in 1862 and who lived to 103.

 

“She is basically the last of the early settlers,” says Stupnik. “It’s her parents’ story. It’s everybody’s story who moved into the community.”
