Library Hosts Becker School’s Annual Student Art Show

The Becker School District kicked off their 8th annual K-12 Student Art Show with a reception Thursday.

Hosted by the Becker Public Library, the event was filled with the sounds of classical music and people enjoying refreshments and discussing the artwork that lined the windows and tops of bookshelves.

The school district’s art teachers choose student artwork from various projects throughout the year to feature at the show. Artwork in nearly every medium was on display, including drawings, paintings, watercolor, collage, pastels, print-making and ceramics.

“We try to pull some of the best art we’ve been working on throughout the year,” said high school art teacher Jo Eichler. “The students have created some great art, and this way everyone is able to see what they’ve been working on.”

Children who attended the event were able to decorate popsicle sticks to add to a collaborative art project that will be gracing the library.

“I love this event,” said Becker Librarian Jeannette Burkhart. “I love the fact that we can work together with the art teachers to display their students art. It brings so many people into the library.”

J2J provided cello and flute duet music for the reception. Their presence was made possible through Great River Regional Library System’s Legacy Program.

The district’s art teachers, who include Joan Jacobson (PS), Gail Peroddy (IS), Tracy Hare (MS) and Jo Eichler (HS), were all in attendance to discuss their students’ art.

The work of over 150 students is being represented at the art show, which goes until May 23. Everyone is invited to visit the Becker Library to enjoy the display.
