(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office.)

A Level 3 sex offender who was released from custody in September and briefly lived in Sherburne County is planning to move back to the county.

David John Kangas Jr., 34, has served his prison sentence for sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

The state Department of Corrections on Wednesday informed the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office that Kangas would be moving back to rural Princeton on Thursday in the vicinity of 307th Ave. NW and 147th St.

The DOC also said that Kangas intends to relocate to another county in the near future so his stay in Sherburne County could be brief.

A community notification meeting regarding Kangas was held in Zimmerman on Sept. 21, after he was released from DOC custody. Another community notification meeting has was held Monday, Jan. 31 at the Zimmerman Public Safety Building.

Because Kangas was designated a Level 3 sex offender, law enforcement is allowed to notify the public about this release and where he plans to live.
