What a week so far!

The City of Becker is in the midst of its annual celebration called Freedom Days that culminates Saturday night. All week long activities and events have been arranged to get area residents out into the populace for lots of fun and educational entertainment.

The week started with the first clue to the hidden medallion — a popular hide-and-seek activity that gets people into the parks and city-owned lands in a race to uncover a shiny badge. It took just one day and one set of clues for Joe Sieg to discover the highly-sought prize. He is scheduled to appear at Sherburne State Bank next week to pick up his prize of $100.

Also this week, there was a “show us your spirit” selfie contest, an open streets event at the BCC, a scavenger hunt, an ice cream social, a business customer appreciation luncheon, disc and speed golf at Pebble Creek, a lunch at City Park hosted by area seniors, an art festival, a Kiddie Parade, Farmer’s Market, 5k run/walks, the main parade, Teen Zone, a Buzzards/Bandits baseball game, softball, golf and the spectacular fireworks show to close it all off.

On Saturday there will be a Memorial Blood Center Blood Drive, a craft show, games/inflatables, food and beverages, Hasse Petting Zoo & Pony Rides, a Lions raffle, free golf at Pebble Creek, Dazzlers and Starz dance camp performances and the Becker Blast softball tournament.

Entertainment at the main stage will be performed by Dean-O-Mite DJ from noon until 2 p.m., the Fugitives perform from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Outside Recess plays from 6 to 10 p.m. All culminating with one of the area’s best fireworks show at 10 p.m.

A huge shout out to the staff at the BCC, city staff, Becker Police and Reserves,  volunteers and all the 2018 Freedom Days sponsors!
