Tuesday night’s Clear Lake Twp. meeting was the last to be held in the historic town hall on Main Street, the building has been purchased and the board is moving forward with plans for the new township hall that will be built at Clear Lake Twp. Park.
The township’s attorney approved the purchase agreement, the building is being sold for $35,000. A motion carried accepting the document.
According to state statute, a resolution authorizing the township to sell the building is also necessary; Resolution RES-2019-039 was drafted and accepted by the board.
The sale is contingent on the City of Clear Lake rezoning the property to B1 central business district, which surrounding property is already zoned as. City Council will be discussing the matter at their May 6 meeting. The plan is to close on the sale May 7.
“As a board, we’re happy it’s [town hall] going to be used,” said Chairman Gary Gray. “It’s been here close to 100 years now and it will hopefully be here many more.”

Gray informed the board he had received a quote of $21,760 for construction documents on the new township hall from HMA Architects. A motion carried accepting the bid.
