Filings for city council and mayoral elections ended Tuesday, and Becker city voters will have seven candidates to choose for two open council seats and the position of mayor.
Incumbent Mayor Lefty Kleis has decided to throw his hat in the ring for another term. He will be opposed by current Council Member Tracy Bertram, whose seat is up for election this November. Todd Hanrahan’s seat (former seat of Adam Oliver) is the other seat up for occupancy.
Hanrahan has filed to keep his seat and four others will be vying for his and Bertram’s seat. Those individuals include, Michael J. Doering, Dennis J. Rzeszotarski, Keith Studer and Adam Maskowski.
Although, not required, the City of Becker encourages council members to represent the city at various functions around the city and state, such as Freedom Days, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Events, City of Becker Chamber Events, Becker City 5k Runs, Coalition of Utility Cities meetings, and Meet with the Mayor, to name a few.
The city council and mayoral elections will occur the same day as the general election, Tues., Nov. 8 and voting will occur at City Hall.
Becker is governed by a mayor and four-member city council, all elected at large by the voters of the city.
Mayoral elections are held every four years.
The Becker city council has staggered four-year terms, with two seats up for election every two years.
Since Aug. 2, candidates have slowly trickled in for the two open city council positions in Becker, with some familiar names in the mix.
Candidates had until the end of the business day Aug. 16 to file for either seats. They also have until Aug. 18 to withdraw as a candidate should they decide to do so.
