It was a morning filled with crafts and fun at the Sherburne County Fairgrounds last Tuesday, as a group of kids kindergarten through second grade learned more about animals.
The Cloverbud Animals Adventures day camp, presented by the University of MN Extension Service, focused on not-so-typical animals and their habitat.
“We’ve been playing games with an animal theme,” said 4-H summer intern Blake Berning, “like charades.”
Kids took turns imitating animals while the others did their best to guess.
They also talked about their trips to the zoo with their families, and which animals they liked best.
“They liked the seals. Some liked the octopus and jellyfish,” said Madison Bromberg of the extension office.
Kids made faces of animals using paper plates, like an elephant, fox, lion and giraffe. They also made safari hats, which they wore after attaching a string to go under their chin.
Later in the day, Berning led them through an exercise where they learned what baby animals were called and had to match the adult animal with their offspring, like matching a sheep and its lamb or a horse and its foal.
And, to make their snacks appropriate, the kids ate Goldfish and Animal Crackers.
It was the final day camp of the season, and the kids found it both fun and interesting.
“All the kids either had animals or a pet at home,” said Bromberg.
