Juveniles Charged in Big Lake Carjacking – 2nd Handgun Found

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted to the Patriot by the Big Lake PD).

On April 7, 2021 at approximately 6:43 p.m., Big Lake Officers were dispatched to a robbery at gun point in the Station Street Apartments parking lot. The female victim stated two juveniles approached her needing a ride. One juvenile pulled out a gun and told her to give him her keys or he will shoot her. The juveniles got inside her vehicle and sped off.

OnStar tracked the vehicle to the parking lot at 715 Martin Ave, in Big Lake. Sergeant Kucala located the vehicle and saw two juveniles, matching the description of the juveniles given by the victim, walking toward Coborn’s. When the juveniles saw Sergeant Kucala’s squad car they fled on foot, climbing over the fence from the Coborn’s parking lot to the car dealership on the other side.

Sergeant Kucala and Officer Reek located one juvenile male hiding under a vehicle and took him into custody. Two anonymous citizens saw the other juvenile male running across Phyllis St and followed him. A Sherburne County Sergeant, along with the anonymous citizens, were able to take the second juvenile into custody.

The handgun, car keys, and a piece of clothing were located near the fence where the juveniles climbed over.

The juveniles were transported to Lino Lakes Juvenile Detention Facility where charges are pending.
