Two weeks ago, the Citizen-Tribune reported that the MPCA denied Northern Metal Recycling’s extension request to continue operating their business in Minneapolis while their new plant in Becker continues to go through construction.
This week, a judge ruled on Monday that NMR can continue to operate beyond the Aug. 1 deadline.
“Northern Metal Recycling is pleased with the guidance from the court,” NMR COO Scott Helberg said.
“We look forward to completing the construction of our new, state-of-the-art recycling facility in Becker which will employ 85 Minnesotans.
The deadline of Aug. 1 to cease operation in Minneapolis became an issue as NMR tries to finish construction in Becker and the city runs utilities to the site later this summer. NMR requested a two-month extension from the MPCA citing weather-related issues and the lack of sewer and water connections from the City of Becker as being the cause for the holdup on operating their new business in Becker.
“As we continue to work closely with the City of Becker to obtain all necessary utilities, we are excited about the future,” said Helberg.
