Indoor Garage Sale Packs ‘Em In

As a tie-in to the Touch-A-Truck event in the parking lot, the Becker Community Center held their 17th annual Indoor Garage Sale in the gymnasium Saturday.

Spring is typically the time for house cleaning and ridding ones home of items holding value but continue to collect cobwebs year-in and year-out.

Dozens of bargain shoppers made their way through the crowds inside the gymnasium to find tables filled with books, DVDs, games, knick-knacks and toys. Racks of clothes were suddenly swarmed under and surrounded by eager and focused shoppers.

One booth, manned by Eddie and Gwen Dunteman of Becker, had boxes and boxes of brand-new Barbie dolls and Beanie Babies just waiting to find new homes. The Barbies featured Barbie in many different styles and outfits and even featured the four main characters from the Wizard of Oz decked out in their iconic costumes and sheltered from dirty hands inside their ne’er-been-opened cartons.

Bruno Gad had quite a collection of memorabilia including a framed photo of the 1952 New York Yankees as well as old record albums and relic tools.

Another booth featured hand-made wood signs and another featured comic books and DVDs. Carol Brunn of the local BASC manned a booth that sold coasters, hand-made towels, scarves, pictures and baked goods.

Grace’s Goodies sold fresh-baked pies, cookies and banana bread and other booths kept busy selling their slightly-used children’s clothes, toys and games.

The staff at the BCC also put up a large table in one area with coloring book pages and crayons to give the tiniest of guests a chance to be creative while mom and dad — or grandma and grandpa — circled the gym to find treasures.

Jolene Marks of Clearwater and her daughter, Jasmine (17) and a cousin, Cienna Pittman of Princeton were pleased to find DVDs of movies they either cherish or haven’t seen — so they bought a lot of them.

Kids clothes are always a popular item at garage sales and Sunday’s event was no different. Wendy Borscheid and her friend Christine Androff — both of Becker — purchased some kids clothes before heading over to other booths that drew their attention.

In its 17th year, the BCC Indoor Garage Sale continues to be a launching point for the spring season and a destination place for those looking to discover precious valuables.
