History Center Hosts Art Show

The Sherburne History Center (SHC) hosted the second annual Sherburne Area Visual Arts Showcase this week, beginning with an invitation-only reception Monday night and an ice cream social Tuesday night. The free show was open to the public through Friday.

This year’s art showcase highlighted 15 local artists from throughout Central Minnesota, whose works included paintings, drawings, wood carvings, sculptures and ceramics. Many of the pieces were available for purchase from the artists.

Monday’s invitation-only reception was held for the artists, their families and friends, and organizations that supported the showcase. Along with the artwork, two guitarists helped provide ambiance.

Tuesday’s ice cream social was open to the public and attracted 115 people over its two hours. One of the artists, a wood carver, demonstrated his craft during the event.

“Our goals [with the showcase] were to provide local artists a place to show off what they do,” said organizer Karah Hawkinson. “And give the community a chance to see some of the art created in the area.”

The Clear Lake Lions and Liberty Paper provided funding for the showcase, which was planned and organized by committee members Hawkinson, Mike Brubaker, Tom Sheldon, Susan Dunbar, Barb Gulbrandson and Michelle Peacock.
