WHILE THE BAND, May North, entertained, History Center fundraiser night-goers partied. They included Dale and Pat Seavert, Marliss Bock, Jackie Hanson, Jerry and Carol Brunn, all of Becker, and Dave Anderson and Eileen Stombaug of Big Lake Twp.
DARA AND CHRIS Smith of Monticello, paying close attention to the band, May North, at the Sherburne History Center fundraiser last Saturday at the Carousell Works in Big Lake.
MIKE BRUBAKER of the Sherburne Historical Center invited additional fundraising people with his t-shirt at the historian’s annual spring fundraiser at the Carousell Works.

Historians Party, Raise Some Money

The Historians poured wine, poured beer, bet on wine, perhaps beer, listened to the Bluegrass music, bet on other items, and had a pretty good night at the Carousell Works in Big Lake earlier this month.

The occasion was the Sherburne History Center’s annual spring fundraiser fling, Rhythm & Brews.

An estimated 55 tickets were sold, reports Executive Director Mike Brubaker, and when all the totals were tallied, they had earned about $2,200 for the evening.

Much credit should go to their official wine peddler for the evening, Teresa Warner, who matched up 30 event-goers - for a fee of $10 a bottle - purchases of some good wine - and some not-so-good wine.

Lake Liquor of Big Lake and Hi-Way Liquors of Monticello were recognized for their very generous contribution of liquors for the evening.

But for Brubaker, the fundraising is not over.

He was sporting a t-shirt, “Ask Me About My Hair,” encouraging patrons to inquire about his shirt, upon which he would have told them it was for another good cause.

Seems Mr. Brubaker is continuing his annual “hair” fundraising program. Two years ago, he shaved his head for about $4,000 in proceeds to the History Center; in 2015 the hair was some part of a bake sale and ice cream social.

This year, if patrons can raise $3,200 between May 1 and June 1, he will opt for a 1960’s style Toni Perm.

“That is, if I have grown my hair out to four inches. Then, they can do the permanent,” he said.

Stink and all.
