This year’s Concert at the Creek at Pebble Creek brought back crowd favorite Chris Hawkey and his band to headline the event on a perfect weather-wise evening Saturday.
Hawkey, who two years ago was crippled as power surges blew the power and his show was interrrupted, this time powered through with no hiccups and kept his audience hopping, bopping and dancing in the grassy dance floor of the driving range at the local golf course.
The concert venue was a 21-and-over event for adults only and featured delightful food choices, liquor options and a wide selection of beers.
The event kicked off with Becker musician Joe Perry playing for a little over an hour and in between sets — crooning a few of his own ballads and a few found on popular radio stations. Perry, highly-regarded for his strong vocals and exceptional guitar skills, is a familiar face in these areas as he entertains audiences at local bars like Lupulin Brewing Company in Big Lake, Bauernhof Klause Tap Haus in St. Michael and Pebble Creek in Becker.
The White Keys was the warm-up band for Hawkey and the band consisting of just two players — delighted the early attendees with energetic cover songs from the early days of rock and roll up to today. Sebastian Davin, the keyboardist and lead vocalist, turned a lot of heads as his raspy voice and unparralled piano-playing got the venue clapping and singing along.
His partner on drums, Allen Maier, astounded the listeners with his precise and spirited craft.
Kudos to the sound engineer as the sound from all three musicians and bands was optimum.
Chris Hawkey is a country artist from Ohio who now makes Minnesota his home. He is probably best known for being part of the PowerTrip morning radio show on KFAN in the Twin Cities. Hawkey has numerous solo records and has spent time on the Billboard National Country charts. His brand of music is loud and in your face and he really connects with the crowds with his playful banter.
Concert at the Creek volunteers sported bright, neon-pink shirts to help concert-goers find the food, drink or bathrooms throughout the night. The ladies from the Pebble Creek Women’s Club had a tent where they asked for donations to help pay for school supplies for local students. This is part of the greater initiative of “Pebble Creek Cares” as the golfers and club members increase efforts in giving back to the community. They amassed nearly $320.
Most guests to the concert brought their own chairs while dozens preferred to stand during the seven-hour event or dance to the music in front of the stage.
