With nothing pressing on this year’s annual meeting agenda, Haven Twp. residents turned out in low numbers last week.
Jim Knoblach was nominated moderator, and Clerk/Treasurer Mike Zniewski reviewed the treasurer’s report, stating the year-end cash reserve was $576,495.
Supervisor Mark Knowles gave the road and bridge report. He informed attendees the 2017 road project was the Elk River Estates neighborhood and a video of the completed project was shown. He explained that although they’d hoped to keep the 2019 the same, their projections showed they wouldn’t be able to continue with large projects if it stayed the same.
“We can’t maintain the roads we have and continue working on large projects like this without an increase,” he said.
Supervisor Jeff Schlingmann discussed the proposed 2019 budget and levy, explaining they were asking for an increase of $60,000, which would go into the road and bridge fund.
“Sherwood Shores is our next big project,” he said. “Long term there are several that are going to need some major reconstruction and that costs a lot of money. As we go forward this doesn’t end if we want to maintain our infrastructure. All you have to do is drive on our roads to see some are not in the best of shape, and the longer they go unrepaired the more money they take.”
The township’s total 2019 levy request was $461,000, which passed unanimously.
Supervisor Kathi Kosloski have the fire report, and explained the township was in the first year of a two-year contract with the Sauk Rapids Fire Dept., which had dropped by 4%.
The gopher bounty was again set at $2 per gopher, and clean-up day was set for May 12 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The next Haven Twp. annual meeting will be March 12, 2019 at 7 p.m.
