Haven Twp. Discusses Roads During Recent Meeting

The Haven Twp. Board of Supervisors discussed a number of road issues during their regular monthly meeting Monday night.

Twp. Attorney David Meyers told the board he would like them to move forward with obtaining temporary easements this summer for the future 36th Street project in Sherwood West, which is expected to begin in 2019.

He also indicated he would like them to ask Jon Bogart, the engineer who drew up the plans for the project, to either commit to following through with the project or discuss the plans with a new engineer, as Bogart has announced he will be retiring.

Meyers informed the board there was only one property owner that hadn’t yet signed the 52nd Street road order, and said he would provide the needed document for them to bring with when one of them went to speak to the owner to answer questions he had.

All property owners must consent to the road order for the project to go forward, otherwise a hearing will need to be held.

Supervisor Mark Knowles told Jeff Rhodes of Driveway Services that if more snow is received yet this season they won’t necessarily go out to clear the roads, especially the gravel roads, as this time of year it tends to melt quickly.

He instructed Rhodes to contact him if he felt they should be done, as they would clear the intersections and areas if necessary.

Knowles told the board after their upcoming road tour they would need to look at the numbers and discuss what projects they would be doing this year, which will then be on the April meeting agenda.

He said he may speak with Clear Lake Twp. Chairman Gary Gray about the possibility of partnering with Sherburne Co. on future road projects, which Clear Lake Twp. has done in the past.

On previous projects Haven Twp. found they would save money working on their own.

Other Business
Meyers informed the board he had the file for every project he’s ever worked on for the township scanned, as at times it’s not clear what was done by reading the minutes from the meetings. He recommended they be kept on a hard drive for potential future needs. He also brought a box of items that weren’t able to be scanned for them to maintain.

With the 2019 levy set at $461,000 at the annual meeting, a motion passed adopting the 2019 budget.

The Board of Equalization meeting is set for April 19 at 1 p.m.

Clean-up day has been set for May 12 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The sheriff reported 113 calls for service for February, including one assault, one DUI, two domestic, nine motor vehicle accidents and 31 traffic.

The next Haven Twp. meeting will be April 16 at 7 p.m.
