During Monday night’s Haven Twp. meeting, Supervisor Kathi Kosloski presented the board with the recent fire protection agreement from the Sauk Rapids Fire Dept.
For 2018 and 2019, Haven Twp. will be paying $51,106 for fire protection, which is a four percent decrease in their contribution. The fire department will now be completing event reports when possible, copies of which will be sent to the township clerk.
Kosloski informed the board a daughter of one of the firefighters had held a fundraiser that raised $71,000, which allowed the department to purchase an airboat for their fleet.
A motion passed approving the new fire protection agreement.
Airport Meeting
Kosloski updated the board on the recent St. Cloud Municipal Airport board meeting she had attended, which was held after the Super Bowl.
The airport had 68 airplanes and 10 gulf stream jets arrive during Super Bowl weekend, which they called “36 hours of crazy.” They provided hats and mittens to the pilots when they debarked, as most weren’t prepared for the cold weather.
Survey results showed people were extremely complimentary of the airport.
Road Report
Koslowski told the board a group of people in Elk River Estates would like to see a single garbage hauler in the neighborhood to reduce wear and tear and on their new road.
Supervisor Mark Knowles said he thought it was a great idea, and advised they contact area venders and ask for bids. Because it’s a single neighborhood the township doesn’t need to be contacted.
Kosloski informed the board she’d asked Jeff Rhodes to break out all the expenses on the Elk River Estates project, as she believes the project itself didn’t go over budget, it was the number of trees that were removed that added to the cost.
Knowles notified the board he’d gotten a couple of calls from residents complaining about when their roads were being plowed.
“I think they’re [Driveway Services] doing a good job,” he said. “Someone is always going to be last.”
Knowles stated he believes the township has a good contractor based on the number of years he’s been on the board; the rest of the board concurred.
Other Business
The board approved an IUP amendment for a solar garden on Co. Rd 8, which consisted of a name change from Minnesota Solar Community to DG Minnesota CSG, LLC.
The board approved the audit report and the levy request of $461,000 for the annual meeting. They also passed a motion to send the audit report to the state auditor.
The sheriff reported 116 calls for service for January, which included 20 security checks, 30 traffic, one burglary of a business, one theft of a fish house, which was recovered, three property damage, four medicals and a traffic stop in which several weapons were recovered that were being used to shoot signs and mailboxes.
