GSL High School to open in Elk River

A new high school will be opening in Elk River this fall. Good Shepherd Lutheran High School (GSLHS) will offer faith-based learning to students in grades 9-12. Classes will be held in the Lord of Glory Lutheran Church in Elk River.

Faith in Learning

GSLHS integrates the Bible into all classes, with additional prayer time every day and weekly worship.

“The Bible is integrated into each class providing a solid foundation for faith and character building,” said Melissa Lamkin, part of the leadership team for the new school.

The school hopes to be able to offer education tailored to each individual student.

“At GSL, matching a student’s gifts and talents with their interests allows students to seek a vocation with a purpose in mind,” Lamkin said. “Every student has a vocational plan merging academics, interests, and experiences to create a complete high school experience.”

Extracurriculars, PSEO, and Other Opportunities

The school plans to offer many learning opportunities for students, including extracurricular activities, service learning, internships, and apprenticeships. The school has also partnered with Crown College to offer PSEO (Postsecondary Enrollment Options: a program allowing high school students to take college courses on a college campus for college credit) to freshmen and sophomores, and has partnered with Concordia University to offer PSEO to juniors and seniors. With options for PSEO, students can achieve their Associate’s degree by the time they graduate high school.

Extracurricular activities will be made available as the students express interest in them, with potential to explore sports, e-sports, theatre, and other interests.

Signing Up

Enrollment is now open for the 2021-22 school year. Lamkin says the school is planning to host 10-15 students in its first year, the majority of which will be enrolled in ninth grade. Families interested in enrolling their students can sign up for a tour at GoodShepherdLutheranHS.org. Lamkin is excited to welcome students to GSLHS.

“Because we focus on strengthening and supporting families, we will offer many events and other educational opportunities throughout the year,” she said. “Growing in Grace; Serving in Community; Leading in Faith outlines our core beliefs.”
