Spring was kicked off in a big way at Palmer Park Saturday as children, parents and grandparents flooded into the park to join in the fun at the Clear Lake Lions 1st Spring Fling.
Originally scheduled to be held the Saturday before Palm Sunday, the event was postponed to May 4 due to the continued snow cover.
To the excitement of the children, families arriving to the Spring Fling were greeted by the Easter Bunny, an unexpected after-Easter surprise.
The highlight of the event, an Easter egg hunt, began at 10:30 a.m. Palmer Park was divided into three age divisions, Pre-K, grades K-3 and grades 4-6, with eggs hidden in progressively harder places. With buckets and bags in hand, kids raced off to collect as many of the 1,400 colorful plastic eggs as they could find.
Most of the eggs contained pieces of candy, however, a select number announced their finders to be prize winners, which they were able to collect after the hunt.
After the hunt, participants were invited to enjoy hotdogs, chips and beverages.
Along with all the fun, free vision screening for kids was offered. Sponsored by Lions Kidsight USA, the screening was provided to help early detection of vision problems.
Interested boys and girls could also sign up for Palmer Ball during the event, which runs from June through the end of July.
