‘Glowing’ 4 H Lock In

“The glow sticks were over-the-top fun!” said Rosealyn Firenz, fourth grader from Saint Cloud and new to 4-H.

“I hope they do this every year!”

Rosealyn was not the only youth excited about the 4-H evening. Thirty-two youths aged third-sixth grade attended the Benton County 4-H Ambassador Glow Lock-In hosted by the 4-H Ambassadors.

“The 20 ambassadors, grade seventh-12th, worked hard and planned fun activities for the younger kids to enjoy.” said Joyce Belanger, Ambassador Advisor.
“They all worked together to make a successful lock-in.”

The ambassadors planned a break out box where the youth had to find clues and solve challenges. Plus, they led team-building and communication games where all the youth could build relationships and have fun.

“It was a really great time,” said Addison Dahler, fifth grader from Foley,

“The ambassadors made it so much fun.”

There were smiles, screams and laughter everywhere. The only time it was quieter was when the ambassadors and youth had small group time building relationships and learning about the opportunities that 4-H has to offer.

“I enjoy being an ambassador because I get to help little kids understand 4-H and what it does for the community.” said Ambassador Travis Boyle, eighth grader from Foley.

“I enjoyed the lock-in because I loved to see the little kids faces light up when we turned off all the lights and played glow games.”

Each youth left with a bag full of goodies including glow slime they made, firefly jar and artwork they created.

Events like this are just one example of what Benton County 4-H is all about.
