Girl Scouts Meghan Swanson, Delaney Varney and Gabby Artman approached the Palmer Twp. Board of Supervisors during their meeting Monday night to provide an update on their ‘Little Library’ Silver Award project and thank the board for their support.
Swanson reported the Little Library at Palmer Park has been installed and is being used. The second and third libraries, which are being placed at the Becker Athletic Complex and a neighborhood on 175th Street, will be installed within the next month.
Road Report
Chairman Mike Ganz updated the board on the Co. Rd. 6 improvements, informing them a turn lane and bypass by the park had been added to the project by the county. Tarring is scheduled for next week; additional road repair has been added where the project connects with township roads.
Quotes are being obtained from Knife River for each of the township’s add-on projects; a motion carried to approve the bids as they come in.
Field surveys have been completed on the Cedar Point improvements; the project will be put out for bids once a road survey recommendation is received.
The culvert on 90th is still flowing and is about ¾ full; repairs will need to wait until there is less water.
Steve Swedal approached the board to ask for recommendations and inquire if there was anything the township can do in the 44th Street cul de sac regarding water drainage. The area drains into his lot and he’s had to sandbag in front of his garage for several years.
Ganz indicated he would look into the situation and recommended Swedal talk to the county in the meantime.
Knife River has asked for and received permission from the board to pump water out of Rush Lake for road projects in the township.
Park Report
Palmer Ball began Monday night and was well attended. It will continue for the next five weeks.
Mitch Hoefer informed the board he had received a quote of $1,300 for brown-treated composite boards to replace needed picnic table board and requested to upgrade some of the benches in the playground area.
The roof of the candy shack is in need of repair; the board will look into using donated money from Palmer Day to fund the project.
Other Business
A motion carried approving the tobacco license for Briggs Lake General Store.
The BLCA hosted their annual picnic at the park last Saturday. Their annual meeting is Aug. 10; officers will be elected and the barrier grates at Rush Lake Dam will be discussed.
Ganz informed the board he has been pulling advertising signs from the township’s right-of-way and setting them by the dumpster outside town hall. Those that haven’t been picked up after a couple of weeks will be disposed of.
The sheriff reported 61 calls for service for May, including two fraud complaints, seven suspicious activities, two criminal damage to property, one medical and one theft of tires, which the suspect has been identified in.
There was also one no-wake warning; Ganz requested violators begin to be ticketed as the restriction has been in effect for a while.
The board asked that construction equipment be watched more closely to inhibit vandalism.
The fire department reported three calls for Palmer Twp. in May, including two medical and one fire.
The next Palmer Twp. meeting will be July 8 at 7 p.m.
