The jolly old elf from the North Pole and his fetching bride cast aside the comforts of their home and workshop to visit kids from surrounding communities at the annual “Breakfast with Santa,” event Saturday morning.
The gymnasium was packed with visitors as the tables — all decorated in the colors of the holidays — received food prepared by the Lions and setup by the local Girl Scout. A table nearby had stacks of paper with outlined drawings on them for the little ones to color while they waited for their chance to meet Old St. Nick.
Breakfast consisted of pancakes, eggs, sausage, milk, coffee and juice and was served by the Becker Lions and their numerous volunteers. A snaking, long line from one end of the gym to the other featured patient parents and children as they prepared to tell Santa all about their lists of toys they wanted to receive Christmas Eve.
Some of the youth showed wonder in their faces at the chubby bearded man and his missus greeted them while others showed trepidation as they left the arms of their loved ones to be received by the couple dressed in red and white garb. Santa and Mrs. Claus provided laps for the little ones and gazed kindly into the eyes of the youths who spelled out exactly what they hoped for come Christmas Day.
During the session, the volunteers from the Girl Scout troop got their chance to pose with the Clauses as Santa and the missus thanked them for their service.
The BCC would like to thank the Becker Fire Dept. for bringing Santa over to the BCC by fire truck for a grand arrival. Thanks also to the Becker Lions and the local Girl Scouts for preparing and serving an awesome breakfast.
Also, across the hall from the gym the PTSA held a Holiday shop event where people could buy inexpensive gifts for presents or as stocking stuffers.
Also that day, the Becker Library hosted a Holiday Craft Day for kids aged three to 12. Singer and pianist Andrew Walesch was on hand to present a memorable morning of holiday music from the Great American Songbook.
A reminder, Mrs. Claus will be returning to town to participate in Saturday’s “Cooking with Mrs. Claus” event at the BCC. Mrs. Claus wants to help all the kids in the Becker area create Santa’s favorite cookies.
Cooking with Mrs. Claus is for children ages 4-8 and runs from 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $10 (members) or $15 (non-members). Mrs. Claus will also share a secret of how to guide Santa and his sleigh of reindeer to ones home Christmas Eve night!
