Freedom Days Has Something For Everyone

What a week so far! The Becker community is in the midst of its annual celebration called Freedom Days that culminates Saturday night. All week long activities and events have been arranged to get area residents out of their homes and into the populace for lots of fun and educational entertainment.

The week started with the first clue to the hidden medallion — a popular hide-and-seek activity that gets people into the parks and city-owned lands in a race to uncover a shiny disc. This year, the medallion was redesigned and now has a colorful lanyard to hold the medal and the best part — the finder gets to keep the medal as a souvenir!

Also this week, there was a “show us your spirit” selfie contest, an open streets event at the BCC, a magician, a couple ice cream socials, two business customer appreciation luncheons, disc and speed golf at Pebble Creek, a lunch at City Park hosted by area seniors, a Tiny Tots workshop, a Kiddie Parade, Farmer’s Market, 5k run/walks, the main parade, Teen Zone, a Buzzards/Bandits baseball game and the spectacular fireworks show to close it off.

There was a Memorial Blood Center Blood Drive, a craft show, games/inflatables, food and beverages, Hasse Petting Zoo & Pony Rides, Bingo and Meat Raffle, free golf at Pebble Creek, Dazzlers dance camp performance and the Becker Blast softball tournament.

Entertainment at the main stage was done by Dean-O-Mite DJ from noon until 4 p.m., the Fugitives perform from 2 to 5 p.m., Joe Perry & Friends play from 5 to 6 p.m. and Outside Recess plays from 6 to 10 p.m.

A huge shout out to the staff at the BCC, city staff, Becker Police and Reserves,  volunteers and all the 2017 Freedom Days sponsors!
