Freedom Days Fun!

Saturday’s Freedom Days event commenced in the morning  with a 5K run/walk at the BCC. The weather forecast the night before showed a strong chance of some showers and clouds for most of the day, but lo and behold, the clouds broke and nary a drop of water fell from the sky throughout the event.

As the last float departed the route, the attendees of the parade quickly made their way to the T-Town area of Becker to begin celebrating the day’s events with festivities, food and fun.

The weeklong festival began Monday with the “show us your selfie” challenge and concluded with a darkened sky lit up by some of the area’s best fireworks.

The weeklong celebration consisted of customer appreciation lunches, ice cream socials, art festivals, magic, patio parties, music groups, softball, baseball and a host of kid’s games and contests.

Oh, and don’t forget about the food!

Michelle Remick and her Brain Freezze ice cream truck was busy as she took orders and dished out delightful treats to the throngs of Freedom Days attendees. Yummy pork chops, mini donuts, kettle korn, hot dogs, pop and beer were extremely popular destinations on this warm, sunny day.

At the main stage by Charlie’s Bar & Retaurant, Dean-O-Mite kept the kids actively entertained as well as the Boathouse Band from 2:30-5:30 p.m. In between, the Becker Dazzlers dance team showcased their tiny dance campers at the corner of Hancock and Central Ave., then the Becker Starz dancers wowed the crowd with their dance routine moments later. Outside Recess closed out the entertainment with high energy music from 6-10 p.m.

Over at the BAC, the Becker Blast girls softball team hosted a tournament with area teams while the Becker Bandits battled the Becker Buzzards in men’s baseball on the varisty baseball field at BHS.

Overall, this year’s Freedom Days festival was a resplendent occasion that brought families and friends together to celebrate this country’s freedoms and to appreciate all what makes this community great!
