Military men and women who died in service to their country were honored during several local Memorial Day events Monday as members of the American Legion made their way from community cemetery to community cemetery.
The Becker American Legion participated in six services with the final service conducted at the Becker Cemetery. Groups of people stood in solemn honor of those who have died for this country while the Legion members carried the colors into the sites.
A meal was served afterwards at the community center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring turkey and ham.
Two Clearwater American Legions (Posts 323 and 354) visited five cemeteries where the names of the dead were read aloud, followed by a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.
A short program and lunch was held after the cemetery visits at the legion hall.
