Forty-seven local cancer survivors and their guests enjoyed a free dinner Wednesday night at Faith Lutheran Church in Becker.
The event was co-founded by Fran Seeley and Bev Knutson as a way of honoring those who have fought the hard battle of this terrible disease. Two local benefactors — Chuck and Janis Fagin — supplied all the food consisting of pork loins, cheesy potatoes, cole slaw, dinner rolls and cheesecake.
With guests, 71 people were treated Wednesday.
About a dozen or so volunteers helped out in the kitchen and on the floor to serve the meals, beverages and tend to every guest’s needs. They included the Fagins, Lonny & Fran Seeley, Bev Knutson, Bud Stimmler, Darin Seeley, Robin Boros, Mike McDonald, Denise Jones, John Cox, Diane Dodd, Parker Seeley, Morgan Boros and Mason Seeley. All the helpers have themselves been touched by cancer in some sort of way whether personally or through spouses or family members.
Gretchen Bordson, music director at Becker High School, graciously brought along her acappella choir to entertain the guests while they ate. The students got hearty applause after they belted out three to four songs for the patrons.
